NFL fans may not really be waiting all day for Sunday night, but it would be hard to argue that the league’s decision to add an evening game to its Sunday afternoon schedule way back in 1987 has been anything but a resounding success. The SNF games often feature the best games of the week and bettors scour the Sunday Night Football odds pretty much from the time they are posted.

The top seed in the NFC as well as the division title in the NFC North will come down to the final game of the regular season when the Lions entertain the Vikings on Sunday Night Football in Week 18.
The Lions have been among the favorites in the Super Bowl odds since before the season but they haven't been able to shake free of the Vikings, who have matched them win for win. Minnesota improved to 14-2 with Week Sunday's 27-24 victory over the Packers. A day later, the Lions equaled that mark with a 40-34 victory over the 49ers in the final Monday Night Football game of the season. The winner of Sunday night's matchup will not only guarantee home field through the championship game but also a bye to the divisional round.
The Lions won the first matchup of the season 31-29 in Minnesota, beating the Vikings in Week 7 on a field goal with 15 second left in regulation after Minnesota had erased an eight-point fourth quarter advantage to take a one-point lead with 5:50 remaining. The loss was the Vikings' first of the season. The all-time series has been dominated by the Vikings, whose 80-44-2 advantage includes winning streaks of 13, 10 and eight games. But the Lions have won the last four, scoring 30-plus points each time.
Oddsmakers view this game as a virtual push, with the Lions a 3-point home favorite. Detroit is -155 in the Week 18 Sunday Night Football moneyline odds against Minnesota (+130). The over/under of 56 points is a high for the 2024-25 NFL season.

The Sunday Night Football schedule was officially released when the NFL unveiled the full league schedule on May 15. There are 17 “Sunday Night” games on the Sunday Night Football schedule – plus three (Ravens-Chiefs on Sept. 5, Dolphins-Packers on Nov. 28 and Texans-Chiefs on Dec. 21) that will be broadcast by NBC and billed as special edition SNF games.
For sanity’s sake, we have just included the Sunday games on the Sunday Night Football schedule that follows. You should be aware that beginning in Week 5, the NFL can adjust the Sunday Night Football schedule to make sure the best games are featured in the prime-time slot. The decision to “flex” a game out of Sunday Night Football is made at least 10 days before the matchup.
The Cowboys had three scheduled appearances on Sunday Night Football, while the Steelers got of home games in Weeks 5 and 7. The Texans also had a pair of home games in Weeks 2 and 10. Nine teams – the Patriots, Titans, Raiders, Broncos, Commanders, Vikings, Saints, Panthers and Cardinals – were not originally scheduled to play on Sunday Night Football this season. The Week 18 Vikings-Lions game was not part of the original schedule release as the league does not annouce that matchup until the completion of Week 17's games.

One of the most common and popular betting terms you’re going to see when searching for Sunday Night Football betting odds is the moneyline. When you see the term betting line, it’s known as the point spread. There are also a number of other ways to bet, ranging from over/under total points in the game, NFL parlays, teasers, live betting, SNF or other NFL prop bets and much more. We’ll outline these types of bets that you can find on the top sports betting apps.
When you bet the moneyline using one of the high-end NFL betting apps mentioned in this guide, you’re wagering on whether or not a team will win its game. Minus odds (-110) refer to the betting favorite and reflect how much you must wager to win $100. Plus odds (+225) means that team is the underdog and shows how much you will win with a $100 wager.
Online sportsbooks will set a point spread that represents the total by which the betting favorite is expected to win vs the underdog. The spread will allow a bettor to wager on the matchup with a handicap, thus balancing the odds for a favorite and reducing the risk of betting on an underdog. Also, keep an eye on the spread changing as it gets later in the week as injuries can impact teams ahead of the Sunday Night Football matchup.
There are two different types of SNF prop bets: player props and team props. A player prop means you’re betting on an individual performance, while a team prop is a team-based performance in the game.
An example of a player prop that you could bet on would be whether Lamar Jackson runs for more than 80 yards on Sunday Night Football in Week 4 against the Bills. A type of team prop would be betting on the Cowboys to have more than 0.5 total interceptions in Week 5’s SNF game against the Steelers. Often, player props get boosts from sportsbooks to entice more wagering.
Another type of player prop is a futures proposition, such as using NFL MVP odds to bet on who the league's most valuable player will be for this season.
An over/under bet is a prediction of how many combined points will be scored in the game. Each online sportsbook will determine a SNF over/under line every week throughout the season, and there can be variations. Make sure to shop around as an extra point in the over/under can make the difference in SNF betting. You can bet on whether the game will fall under that total or over the projected amount.
Though not unique to Sunday Night Football, futures are bets on specific outcomes at the end of the season. Examples include which player wins league MVP, the winner of the AFC South, or which team has the best Super Bowl odds. These odds fluctuate throughout the course of a season based on what has already happened, and what happens during SNF can impact futures odds.
It’s hard to believe, but there was a time when it was thought that night football games would never work. Instead, they have become an integral and anticipated part of the season schedule. Besides Sunday Night Football, two of the other long-running prime-time slots include Monday Night Football and Thursday Night Football.
